Hello, if you, like me, requested a mail-in ballot in Pennsylvania and are no longer sure you trust it, please read:
You cannot, as far, as I can tell, "take back" your request. But you *can* not send it in after all and show up at your polling place on Election Day.
If you show up *without* your ballot (you forgot it, lost it, it never arrived, etc.), your vote will be PROVISIONAL.
If you are eligible (you're a registered voter at the right location & didn't also send a mail-in ballot), you will *theoretically* be cleared w/in 7 days and your vote will be counted.
It's not one of these "provisional votes are only counted if it's close" things; if you're eligible, your provisional vote would count. Still, I wouldn't recommend this. Too many wild cards.
If you requested a mail-in ballot, decide you want to vote in person, and show up *with your mail-in ballot* on Election Day, however, a poll worker can VOID your mail-in ballot and you can vote fully in person just like you would had you never requested a mail-in.
This still makes me nervous: it requires well-trained poll workers, and this shit is ever-changing. I would verify this before you go to vote. But as of now, this is the law.
I am still not convinced that dropping off my mail-in is *not* a safe option, but I'll make my decision soon in order to leave plenty of time in case I do mail it/drop it off (don't want to do that late). But nice to know I have the option of showing up.
(I also don't *have* my mail-in ballot yet, but I do have email confirmation that my request was approved, so hopefully my lost sleep will be minimal until I get it. Or not.)
(and when I say I'm not sure mail-in voting is not safe, what I really mean is that I'm equally scared of machines breaking or my majority black district mysteriously disappearing on Election Day, hahaha isn't voting in America fun)
