Here is an object lesson in how a partisan reading of science will divide you from real understanding. The truth is that both Paul and Fauci make statements here that are incorrect.

Lost a bunch of followers so maybe this deserves a follow-up? I’m not going to parse all the claims made in this exchange; my recommendation is to just watch the whole exchange and go point for point. Having said that:

On the whole Rand is obfuscating more than Fauci. He has a big, dangerous lie he’s propping up—that lockdowns were unnecessary and didn’t prevent deaths. Absurd. However, his claim that 22% seropositivity is suppressing spread in New York is most likely going to bear out.

It’s disappointing that Fauci can’t own up to suppressive community seropositivity being an open area of inquiry. Anybody in New York can tell you that the degree of suppression here is remarkable. It can’t just be chalked up to masks, increased handwashing etc.

Fauci needs to do better at having these conversations or he’s going to lose the skeptical to cranks like Paul who is a blind man telling you the elephant’s trunk is a don’t tread on me snake.

In retrospect I really should have written out a version of this thread when I shared this clip. For the record: Fuck Rand Paul; Dump Trump; C19 seropositivity in a population seems to have a threshold for suppression and we need to know more about that.
