Some good news in a difficult week. The law access program is up and running. 20 New Haveners, across generations, all people of color or first gen, some formerly incarcerated, all who want to go to law school to make a difference for their community. https://law.yale.edu/yls-today/news/lighting-path-law-school
We meet weekly on Saturday mornings to discuss topics like admissions, financial aid, exposure to legal careers, health and wellness, confronting racism, imposter syndrome, stereotype threat and more. There is also a companion LSAT prep program. It's soul affirming work for me.
Yale is putting money behind it (thanks Dean Gerken). But I still need to raise some funds to pay small stipends to our fellows. Almost all of them work, whether full or part time, many have kids, and this program is a big time commitment. Stipends would help a lot . . .
A stipend would allow a fellow to pay for childcare so they can study for the LSAT, or free a fellow from a few hours of work to attend our Saturday sessions. I DO NOT want your $ (seriously, if you have any extra right now, give to a campaign) . . .
But I AM looking for law firm sponsorships. If you know a firm that might support this work, please share this thread with them, or reach out to me via email or DM.
