My therapist ghosted me two months ago because I refused to return to in person visits.

We need to talk about how therapists are handling COVID. More people than ever are in mental health crises, but I keep hearing stories about therapists’ COVID denial as a barrier to care.
My story is an extreme case. But I want to shine some light on other issues I’ve heard about:

Taking sides in couples therapy over disagreements about wearing masks

Telling people anxious about the virus to “just go to a restaurant!” instead of offering coping skills
Doing telehealth visits in not private locations like a couch with family present

Doing telehealth visits while distracted (i.e., driving to work to meet in person clients)

Dismissing or minimizing concerns about COVID

Fighting client boundaries around quarantine
Therapy is supposed to be a refuge. But living in a conservative state? For my friends and I, it feels more like a battleground. And it really, really exacerbates the difficulties of living in near-isolation from friends and family.
