why it is weird and disrespectful for non asians to audition for kpop companies and try to become kpop idols ; a thread by an asian
the kpop industry is the first time asians have been representated as being "cool" and as something other than just being the nerdy side character than has no other personality trait than studying 24/7, as how western media represent us
for decades and decades, non asians called us slurs like "ch*nk*", re enforcing untrue stereotypes on us like "dog eaters" or having small eyes. and now yall want to become kpop idols? after some of yall calling them "gay" or cringy and being racist towards us??
the kpop industry is the first time where asians finally get to do their own thing, have their own thing and enjoy their success and now non asians, especially white people, want to join too? thats colonizer attitude, luv đŸ˜»
yes of course you can be non asian and enjoy kpop? why? because its still music and you can listen to whatever you want. but... white people are EVERYWHERE, they're the one who are most representated in movies and tv shows, in music, etc. and now yall want to dominate an asian +
based industry?? no lmao just dont. and why is it acceptable for other asians foreigners to audition and not just koreans? because they're also asians who havent had representation before. kpop has helped other asian countries get the recognition they deserve, to show that +
all asians are also talented and can also succeed in the music industry. why are mixed asians allowed to audition? because they're still asian! and mixed asians also never have had the chance to have representation in western mainstream media.
if you want to dance and sing because its your passion thats fine ! do it where you live rn! make your own band with a few friends, you can even inspire yourself from the choreographies in kpop! but dont be like kaachi and start randomly inserting korean lyrics and calling
yourself "ukpop" or "uspop" or whatever
not to mention the insane hoard of koreaboos or asianboos that fetishize asian culture and race and those who want to become kpop idols not because they have a passion for performing but just because they want to meet their "oppars" thats incredibly disrespectful to asians +
and to kpop idols in general. also imagine how unfair it would be for a trainee who has trained for years and years and suddenly a non asian gets their spot just bc they're "unique"
ok end of thread i'll add more stuff if i can think of anything else
ok im adding a small thing to to this thread bc someone dmed me asking me what i think about prisma, the new group with 2 non asian members and 2 asians
first, i still stand by my opinion that non asians should simply not debut in a kpop group đŸ˜» it isnt their place and tbh, im just sick of white ppl. idc how talented they are, this industry is just not their place. also, the company probably recruited them bc they're either+
pretty in korean standards or to make the group unique and get more attention. asians are already not being representated in western media and non asians, ESPECIALLY white people in this case, already get hella attention in asia, trust me we really dont need more white people
also the fact that they selected them bc they were white... it makes me have lana and kaachi flashbacks. 2 asian trainees could have taken their position and could have debuted but whatever đŸ˜» ok anyways this ends the prisma topic dm me if you want my opinion on smth else
oh also forgot to add: i know damn well some non asians (emphasis on yt ppl again) kpop stans would still be racist towards asians if kpop wasnt a trend and was still unpopular in western countries
