so i have family and friends in the music industry working as producers. i reached out to some people and asked if they were willing and able to participate in a little experiment. we always say how yoongi's never produced a song that sounds the same, but that they also +
somehow always sound like his work. i wanted to test it out with people who have an ear for this and ask them if they could pick out which 3 songs in the D-2 mixtape yoongi was not a producer for, but the main composer and writer instead.
the exact question i asked was "3 songs out of 10 on this album have Agust D (the artist) as the main composer and writer, but not the producer. Can you pick out which ones?"
for reference had them listen to; So far away, 724148, Trivia: Seesaw, Eternal sunshine, Shadow, Eight, Let me know, We don’t talk together, Ddaeng, Tony Montana and Autumn leaves. gave them 3 weeks to get back to me.
prod. S, prod. T, prod J and prod. K got every song but one. left out interlude: set me free and included 28. 28 was said to fit into his overall sound and intent a bit more by prod K, even as interlude:set me free also sounded like his production.
prod. T said the bird chirping sample threw him off. prod. J said it sounded very simple so it had him fooled at first, but its an interlude so it makes sense to him now. they all said strange and what do you think are quite easy to tell as not his (did not expand on this ://)
prod. M included 28 and left our dear my friend. drums sounded out of his style (i didn't tell her this but makes sense since kim jong wan did the drum programming, cool that she could pick that up) in retrospect she says dear my friend is somewhat in the vein of so far away and
28 perhaps a bit too stripped from small details and sounds (pads/atmospheric sounds and echoing) you can hear from other productions.
prod. A included what do you think and left out People. what do you think? reminded him of tony montana while People was an unexpectedly bright sound for him to put himself on, which tripped him up. in retrospect lacks some of the producers signatures
prod. N and prod. D got every song right. reasoning being that every songs he's produced has some use of inventive/unique pads and synth, good sampling packs and nice use of layering and panning. has a particular sound to it.
prod. D added daechwita was very easy to pick out as he seems to like the traditional inspired sound + trap fusion. both this and ddaeng sounds really good, easy thing to make tacky but he seems to have a grip on what elements to include.
i also asked all of them what their favourite was off the album and their overall impression of him as a producer. reminder that this whole mini interview is paraphrased and translated since i got responses in swedish, english and german
Honsool was prod. M, prod. N and prod J's top pick. brilliant use of text-painting and atmospheric build up, production created a space in time to get lost in. the goal of any good producer.

prod. A and T chose People, very sweet modern sound +
in love with the marimba. other than the production prod. T was impressed with the juxtaposition of backing vocal (ADORA) to his own voice and layering + harmonies added to pack the song. prod A said it reminded him of We don't talk together with the layering which he liked.
the remaining 3 had daechwita.

prod K says it was a sustained C chord throughout, purposefully kept somewhat simple but brilliant sample instrumentals from the 'asian instruments'
and trap influences on his style of rapping and percussion choices. very cool, hard to pull off and have it sound good. likes that its coming from an actual asian producer and not someone doing a rip-off of their culture.

prod. S loves the gong sound, whatever 'flute'
(help lmao they were struggling with the names no one knows what a taepyeongso is) is going off in the background is the highlight. prod. D also loves it for similar reasons, feels like the rapping is the highlight though and the production perfect to bounce off of
in addition to it being a rare sound for him, simple but impressive choices a great trap + traditional fusion. likes seeing more young producers not overdo it but still try new things
overall consensus on that there's excellent variety, great mixing, arrangement, recording and sampling quality in all of his work. would love to work with him on something. everyone also agrees on that most producers do have signature sounds you can pick out and these are
clear in this producers work as well, even though the majority didn't get every track right.

+ sidenote /everyone/ complained at having to choose 1 top production.
hope everyone enjoyed the brief interview, typed it out as best as i could and hopefully it was easy enough to follow. wish i could've asked more in detail questions but life's busy and i took what i got
addition i forgot in the thread. 6 of these producers are hiphop producers, prod M is a pop producer and prod K does hard rock/metal. in case thats interesting information!
