It also shows how much parenting has changed in some places in only a few decades. On weekends it wasn’t unusual for kids to wake up, make themselves cereal, and leave for the entire day like, see ya! I’m going to go down some coffee, use power tools, then walk off a cliff!
In one of the Nijnte / Miffy children’s books she, aged about 4, goes out alone in the snow, returning only for hammer, wood, and nails to build a birdhouse, also by herself

It’s great for kids to be independent and not be watched constantly, but wow
