but what if,,, upon hearing that xeno's in danger, stan bolts for the castle and sees xeno on the floor, covered in blood
stan goes ballistic and attacks the person closest to him—ukyo. he's not thinking straight at all; even though he's the best fighter on the american team,

he's completely outnumbered. but he doesn't care.
stan and ukyo fight. xeno, barely conscious, pleads with stan to just run, just leave him behind and he'll be okay on his own. stan isn't listening. blinded by rage, his attacks are erratic and clumsy.

stan aims his gun, but ukyo disarms him with a blow to the wrist. as the gun skitters away, stan pulls out his knife and lunges at ukyo, who's reaching for the gun. ukyo's hands close on the revolver first and he takes aim.

with the crack that pierces through the air comes a sickening thud.

ukyo's standing above the body, realization setting in.
his voice shakes.
"I didn't mean to… I- I had no choice, I…" he stammers out, but nothing he says can take the bullet back.

xeno just stares at his childhood friend.

"Stan…?"

maybe if xeno calls out loud enough, he'll respond. he always does.

"Stan, get up. This isn't funny."

he always does,

"Answer me, Stan!"

but not this time.
