The first patient with COVID I admitted to the ICU was 23 years old. He was healthy, he worked at a grocery store.

I saw him because he needed 100% oxygen and was gasping at 60 breaths a minute.

He was rushed to the ICU, we put a breathing tube in, and put him on a ventilator..
He was heavily sedated and ventilated for over 2 weeks before he turned around. At 23, he's supposed to get better, and he did. The breathing tube came out.. but he wasn't the same. 2 weeks of ventilation and sedation leaves one weak, delirious, and prone to complications..
We treated ICU complications and got him to the point of walking, interacting, and watching Netflix on his tablet.

He was discharged from the ICU. I was looking forward to seeing him on the ward. In April he was a rare COVID ICU survival story. At 23, he's supposed to be.
A few days later, a Code Blue was called, I responded. It was him. His heart stopped. We did CPR for 30 minutes, we couldn't get him back.

The first patient with COVID I admitted to the ICU was 23 years old. He died.
