And it's a wrap! Thank you, @raulpacheco, @SimmsMelanie, @Kozinets and @ithinkwellHugh and Nathalie Mitev for contributing to our first @UofGAsbs PhD training retreat in this academic year! Our doctoral students and I have learned a great deal... Key messages following 1/?
The best thing about inviting speakers to an event is getting great tips for teaching online @dataeducata: I've learned about live captioning from @SimmsMelanie, about orderly breaking & returning from breaks, from @ithinkwellHugh who shared his screen with a digital countdown
... about creating one's one photos for your slides from @Kozinets and about SlidesCarnival from @raulpacheco! Also great engagement techniques, on breakout rooms, open questions, good use of the chat function... Really valuable insights, thanks all!
Specific great insights from @raulpacheco on abstract writing. Strikes me that it can be used for grant applications, job applications, any written academic communication which emphasises the new in relation to what pre-exists it.
A great example of a big and complicated story shown in a comprehensive but easy to follow diagram - the recipe for #netnography in a nutshell, from @Kozinets
From @ithinkwellHugh, we learned to match the target audience for our research with most appropriate channels available to reach them. Very valuable lesson in communicating research impact. But also micro-tools when dealing with the media and creating one's 3-min pitch!
I'll end this thread with insights from @SimmsMelanie that Covid is not unlike other adverse events and that project reorganisation is required when managing any research project (or any project, really). Very wise. Preparedness is not just for 2020.
