The woman sitting, E. Hill DeLoney, is considered the “mother” of Flint, a retired social wkr. For more than 50y, she has taught youth about their African heritage & the greatness that accompanies it. Flint has actually held large Juneteenth celebrations for yrs be of her.
Dr. Kent Key (left) is a nationally-known public health expert from Flint; one on the right, Arthur Woodson, is a combat veteran who since day one has never stopped fighting for Flint residents. These are my go-to Flintstones... people who I trust to speak truth to power.
Anyway, I provided all of this info plus the crisis’ status to Senator Harris’ team. In the middle of an exchange with our elder, the Senator referred to her as “mother”. It came out so naturally, authentically. The reverence was so... real.
Arthur and I looked up at each other as the two continued to talk. I think it kind of shook us: “we” don’t normally receive that kind of authentic respect from politicians.
I have only known the Senator since her days running for President. She’s called me to check in a couple of times and we’ve discussed various issues about what’s happening on the ground. This is the woman I’ve come to know. Real compassion, with activist blood.
I have other photos, but this one speaks volumes. If you notice, there was no one else in the hanger. She didn’t want media in there. Only two staffers took notes, one photographer from her team.

We must win this election. Do not assume the people around you are registered to vote, and if they are do not assume they will vote. It will take all of us to #TakeBackAmerica.
