he pauses at that, and only then does he realize that tears are streaming down his face. only then does he realize that iwaizumi is kneeling in front of him with his hands wrapped around oikawa's wrists so gently that it almost hurts.

"tooru, i am so, so sorry."

"i didn't even realize that i made you feel unwanted. i was unsure of how to act around you, okay? i guess i was used to how we were before—we weren't even dating for that long before we had to leave miyagi. so i'm so sorry for making you think that i want to break up with you."

iwaizumi then cradles oikawa's face before he leans forward to kiss his tears away. he waits until oikawa stops sniffling, and only then does he capture his lips.

(when iwaizumi meets up with his friends the next day, it's with his arm protectively wrapped around oikawa.)

(if iwaizumi isn't hugging oikawa, he laces their fingers together, and while oikawa admits that it was what he wanted iwaizumi to do since his first day in irvine, it embarrasses him anyway. his cheeks are tinted pink for the whole day, and iwaizumi only smiles at him smugly.)

(iwaizumi kisses him in the middle of the quad just as the sun starts to set. oikawa is positive that his face is an unflattering shade of red at that point, but with the way his heart sings in joy, who was he to complain?)
