The origin of the Moroccan flag

Tout d'abord, le drapeau marocain sous les débuts de la dynastie alaouite était complètement rouge.

La couleur rouge était un symbole du Maroc à travers le temps.

Quand à l'étoile à 5 branches, elle remonte au 13 ème siècle. Nous pouvons la voir dans "Cantigas de Santa Maria", sur l'armure des Almohades.

L'étoile (5, 6 ou 8 branches) a toujours été un symbole du pays.Elle a été adoptée sur les drapeaux mérinides et saadiens.

L'étoile à 8 branches est aussi présente dans les bannières Alaouites. Ici, nous pouvons voir des drapeaux capturés au bombardement de Mogador.

Ici, nous pouvoir voir une étoile à 5 branches sur fond rouge dans un livre datant de 1901, bien avant le protectorat.

Nous pouvoir aussi observer l'utilisation d'une étoile à 6 branches sous le règne alaouite.

Ainsi, c'est en 1915 que le sultan Moulay Youssef décide de rajouter cette étoile symbolique sur le drapeau qui était jusqu'ici officiellement rouge.

Thus, it was in 1915 that Sultan Moulay Youssef decided to add this symbolic star to the flag which had hitherto been red.

Cette étoile représente le sceau du prophète Suleyman. Le vert est la couleur qui représente habituellement l'islam.

This star represents the seal of the prophet Suleyman .Green is the color that usually represents Islam.

De ce fait, ce drapeau restera l'emblème qui va définir la nation marocaine. Il sera utilisé parmi ceux qui libéreront le pays.

Therefore, this flag will remain the emblem that will define the Moroccan nation. It will be used among those who will liberate the country.
