i'm not an expert, obvs, but IMO referring to the possibility of male violence as "fantasy" multiple x in an argument seems a bit blind & demeaning. an est 6% of males are rapists, that's approx. 234mil worldwide. that's a lot of fantasies, & that's not including DV or common
assault or indeed the persistent occurrences of violent, degrading & sometimes life-threatening messages that women who don't conform to an ideology/dogma receive daily. & since rapists, abusers & misogynists usually don't have a note on their forehead claiming as such, it's
one of the female burdens to be wary of all male bodied people. if Judith Butler wants to term this fantasy, then surely it's a fantasy borne from reality & one that does its best to keep women alive & safe. to condescend that is not constructive or empathetic.
there are too many women in the world who can't identify out of the violence & abuse & degradation meted out to them due to their biological sex. https://twitter.com/ariana_erbon/status/1212427311083130880?s=20
also, claiming complete ignorance on the weaponisation of a well known & legally adjudicated slur seems incredibly disingenuous. the majority of those who use the term do so with very specific intent. https://terfisaslur.com/
to claim the innocence of the term based upon it's etymology is patronising. the N-word also had an "innocent" etymology weaponised by hate. yet no one would dare argue as such or downplay the significance of the slur, & if they did there's a very clear definition for that.
ofc, this is only my conclusion so i'll defer to someone much smarter than me & someone with much more at stake than me, @janeclarejones, to break down the argument. https://twitter.com/janeclarejones/status/1308672808935919616?s=20
but, i would like to say that the acceptance, tolerance & support for a sustained, malicious effort to debase & intimidate women who don't agree w/the negation & dismissal of their shared female experience & the removal of sex based rights is dangerous. https://photos.app.goo.gl/z2cbyxLSMsGEjEyKA
she has little fear of losing her job or being questioned by police for centering women. she has better protection from physical intimidation. so when i say #IStandWithJKRowling i mean that, but more importantly, i mean #IStandWithWomen.
& in regards to the right or wrong side of history, i believe that those who have sent, tolerated, encouraged or ignored truly abominable messages & intent, those who have physically attacked or intimidated women speaking on their rights,
or those who celebrate or revel in book burning are on a side that i don't want any part of. the dogmatic aggressor & the book burner are never on the right side of anything.
