YOUTH BASKETBALL: A THREAD ON COACHING/PROGRAMMING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

1/ As get back on the floor, many of us for the first time in 6-8 months, we come back with ideas, and information overload. We have watched a lot of online sessions.

Zoomed In and Out

2/ We have watched professional coaches speak on their offense, their defense, culture of a professional team, and the lessons that go along with it. Coaches have taken notes, and will try to impact their teams with this knowledge they have obtained.

3/ The challenge will be:

Taking the information designed for professionals, and making it work with your junior high team, your first time players.. Can we run that same offense that pro team A runs?

4/ The PRO PD PROBLEM:

The majority of the professional development opportunities for Basketball Coaches are done by college/professional coaches. The big names that get clicks, and views who present amazing content, but isn't always best for Youth Basketball.

5/ In August, we set out to help solve this problem: host a PD event specifically targeted for Youth Coaches.

The Global Youth Basketball Summit.

We tagged #doitforthekids because we believe this is what the game at that age is all about.

6/ Over the 4 days, 32 different speakers from around the world spoke on Youth Basketball.

Speakers who work with Youth Athletes everyday, they are steeped in knowledge working with this level of play.
