Do you remember when you joined Twitter? I do! #MyTwitterAnniversary
I knew it was a social media soapbox, but my biggest surprise with twitter was
a) How many sharp people and great information is here.. /1
b) How their are more or less "neighbourhoods" based and the tone and purpose changes with just a few degrees of separation, so one surprise click from echo-chamber to vitriol
c) So. Many. Scientists! ... /2
d) I love the way various interest can overlap and build in organic ways, my key interests are science, govt, tech and leadership and I have been surprised how often they intersect.
e) best way to see how fast information --and disinformation-- travels... /3
..and see preconceptions burst in real time.
f) Lastly, I'm surprised how much empathy is on display here. I'm assuming it is real, and for empathetic people this place must be super incredibly draining!
g) With a personal/professional account I have to be circumspect, so /4
I don't engage in the bun-fights, but with so many bots muting and blocking might be a better strategy anyway.
h) A lot of doom, but a so much hope too.
i) So thanks Twitter, I came for the soapbox, but you've offered a learning environment, which was most unexpected!
