I’ve been thinking a lot about the concept of “integrity” in academic settings and I think what has been the largest predictor of whether I connect to someone or their research, is when I can get a clear sense of why + how they do what they’re doing, and what’s at stake.
It frustrates me that the term “academic integrity” has been institutionalized to be all about avoiding and punishing plagiarism/cheating, rather than on whether people foster and sustain honest, grounded, collaborative, cooperative, and intentional research/learning environments
And yes, I’ve been sitting on a draft of these tweets since February. As someone who still often feels like an outsider in these spaces, I’m never sure whether to share these thoughts.
