I find the tweet fascinating. Posted on 9PM on a Tuesday. Recently, there’s been a media shift praising Darnold’s ability and bashing the shit out of Gase. I wonder... https://twitter.com/sportscenter/status/1308572003780173825
If the team were to fire someone, they’d do it on Monday. But I think Gase’s job is a lot less secure than most fans think. If owners hate embarrassment, seeing Sam traded away to a model franchise partly because of inept coaching is up there
Do I want Jets to win? Yes. However, I’ve seen teams come back from 0-4 or 1-3 to have a respectable season. Willing to start 0-4 if that guarantees Gase is gone and you see Sam with different playcalling. But you really can’t operate with 16 games under Gase.
You can’t evaluate any QB when you’re not eclipsing 100 yards passing until the 4th quarter. The last two coaches we’ve employed play not to get blown out and subsequently get blown out. It’s a bad mentality in a league where most games are close.
What really separated Jets and niners? It’s not talent once the injuries happened. It’s coaching. Jets got burned on out routes and tosses all game. Niners defense sat within like 3-4 yards of LOS. Nobody thought to change things.
Imagine if one adjustment was made. That game is at least closer and Jets cover if not outright win. Instead it’s a bunch of ‘my scheme or else’ guys. Which is super ironic considering Sam was well known for off script plays.
Sam doesn’t even have the confidence to audible out of a god awful play into a QB sneak. That’s like Pre K off script. You think Brady or Rodgers or even Baker is going to stay in some garbage play call relative to situation?
So if Sam can’t do that, the off script plays people beg for aren’t happening. He’s lost his confidence imo. I saw it in his eyes in pregame huddle vs bills. You see it in his tepid defense of Gase and subliminal blaming of O line.
We get on Matt Nagy and Mitch trubisky a lot, but Nagy has a ‘be you’ thing plastered on play sheet. Positive reinforcement and self fulfilling prophecy. If Mitch continues being garbage, at least Nagy can say he supported him. Can Gase say the same thing?
Joe Douglas has done a good job as of now of fixing O Line. He should add a receiver ONLY if Gase is fired. We bring Allen Robinson in here he’ll be running the same screens Perriman is. And then what?
In a league full of flexibility unless your scheme is objectively good, having a rigid attitude towards scheme is going to fail. I realize my thread is all over the place. Deal with it.
Gase saying he doesn’t have playcall for 4th and 7 is baffling. How does he convert 3rd or 2nd and 7? You improved the line. They can’t hold for 2 seconds to get 7 yards? You can’t scheme mediocre receivers open for 7 yards? Then why are you employed?
