When I wasn& #39;t scanning Covid patients I was scanning cancer patients. The sort of people we deferred were people who had painful knees/shoulders etc.
I& #39;m not saying it isn& #39;t miserable for the people who are in pain with bad joints but we needed the spare capacity. https://twitter.com/KateAndrs/status/1308482822429081600">https://twitter.com/KateAndrs...
It& #39;s a balance. We needed to reduce footfall within the dept to keep the staff and those people who needed to come in safe. We did this by not scanning the routine stuff.
We also deferred some of the & #39;long term& #39; low risk followups (5 year plus stuff) with the proviso that if the patient became worried or symptomatic then to call us and we would scan.
The idea that we cancelled stuff so we could sit around doing nothing is offensive.
It could also be mentioned that our DNA rates rocketed during March/April/May time. People were worried and, perhaps not unreasonably, decided not to attend. I can& #39;t say I entirely blame them...?
