Due to really bad encounters with its fanbase during the Wii U days, and seeing just how popular The Space Pirates and Ridley were, I always assumed the entirety of the Metroid series was just a cynical edge fest. Just Nintendos attempt at an edgy game, like Mortal Kombat or Doom
I feel like I might of been unfair to the series, as after looking into the series, only The Space Pirates seem edgy to me. The series seems to be about discovery and curiosity, seeing what the world is like, and wondering what it was like in the past
And even then, The Space Pirates are never depicted as in the right, or as the people you want to win
Unlike characters like, say, Rick & #39;Funniest Shit I& #39;ve Ever Seen& #39; Sanchez, who& #39;s depicted as the one genius surrounded by idiots, Ridley & The Space Pirates are often depicted as foolish themselves, tampering with things they shouldn& #39;t just for a crumb of power
They are always depicted as they& #39;re own undoing. And the series very much encourages you to blow them up with ice beams and missles. In a way, the series is about tearing down edgy cynicism, not celebrating it
Though it doesn& #39;t help when Nintendo hypes up the edgy space dragon with stuff like Ridley& #39;s Smash trailer, that definitely reinforced my & #39;Metroid is an edgy game& #39; assumption D:
But that isn& #39;t representative of the games themselves I feel

I still think some Metroid fans are pretty mean, but I honestly don& #39;t think there& #39;s a single fanbase that isn& #39;t toxic. Even Kirby has gross fans
I guess with a different perspective I& #39;ve come to find things in Metroid that I appreciate!
I know I have some friends who feel the same way I did about Metroid, and that& #39;s perfectly fine!! I hope I& #39;m not coming across as pressuring one to like it! I hate it when people do that
