Because if you won’t define ‘woman’ or repeat the mantra ‘TWAW’ then what we are going to see is more women reported to the police for ‘hate’ for stating that their sex is real.

The laws dealing with harassment and abuse need urgent reform - they all predate the rise of the internet. We need creative thinking about how to investigate these offences - why not more use of civilian investigation teams?

What we profoundly do NOT need is more slicing up of humanity into smaller and smaller groups of those who can make a subjective claim of ‘hate’ in order to silence criticism or challenge.

But I suppose if this is the path we have chosen as a society, then ALL the EA protected characteristics ought to be covered by the Hate Crimes Operational Guidance. Not just a handful.

Best of luck to the police sorting all this out. You will of course need overtime to fit in all the marching you will need to be doing to demonstrate your commitment to ALL the protected characteristics.

And I wonder what definition of ‘gender’ they are going for!

So let’s be optimistic. Let’s hope that proposals like this - which will compel focus on the actual definition of ‘woman’ - will speed the unravelling of this current madness.

Because if what this really is, is trying to set up women as misogynistic hate criminals for disagreeing that men can change their sex, the optics on this are going to be fantastic.
