Given that 'Gender Identity' is, as I understand it, down to an individual to choose - and can't be easily observed - it will make it very hard to have laws protecting it.

Whereas sex is a protected characteristic and can be observed. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-54254541
The way in which sex & gender identity are seen as interchangeable is troubling. As they are two distinct things.

Particularly where laws are involved, we need to have a commonly shared perspective on agreed definitions otherwise we have a word salad in law.
Those kind of things only serve to help people who will abuse. Clear boundaries and definitions do not worry or frighten decent people.

For those who have gender dysmorphia and other struggles with their sexuality, I hope that as a society we can support them.
Pretending that reality isn't what it is doesn't help anyone who is vulnerable. In fact, it places them at greater risk of harm.
