THREAD: It& #39;s the 21st International Celebrate Bisexuality Day!! Better known as Bi+ Visibility Day, but I really want to talk about the celebrating.

See, Dorothy Riddle came up with a psychometric scale that measured the degree to which a person is or is not homophobic. 1/?
On one end you had Repulsion (bad) and on the other you had Nurturance (good). In between you had . & #39;homophobic levels of attitude& #39; (Pity, Tolerance, Acceptance,) and the & #39;positive levels of attitude& #39; (Support, Admiration and Appreciation)

2/??
Riddle is credited as being the first analysis to point out that Tolerance and Acceptance weren& #39;t actually positive things, because they still were saying there was something unwanted that needed to be accepted, and that people would still have the power to accept or reject 3/??
Keeping that in mind I want to talk about internalised feelings, specifically, internalised biphobia,.

There& #39;s a Riddle-esc scale in Not Round Here, an Australian Rural Service Providers Training Manual by Kenton Penley Miller and Mahamati 4/?

This scale looks at how we feel about ourselves, and goes from Denial (bad) to Celebration (good.) The other 3 phobic attitudes are Self-Hatred, Self-Pity, and Resignation. Next, 3 stages of Dealing With Internalised Phobia: Self-Acceptance, Self-Love, and Supportiveness. 5/??
Finally there& #39;s Trancending Phobia: Pride, and Celebration. And friends, for most of my Bi life, Acceptance was all I thought to hope for, so Resignation was as good as it got. And it& #39;s as far as a LOT of us ever get.

Awareness is good. Be aware. Take an interest 6/??
Cause it doesn& #39;t take much digging into bi+ history to see how we& #39;re still asking for the same things. We& #39;ve had data for decades, but we have barely managed to get Tolerance from most.

So today it& #39;s not about that. It& #39;s about US. And it& #39;s about celebrating US. 7/??
I want to see bi, pan, omni, polysexual, plurisexual people dancing in the virtual streets. I want us to know that we deserve more than Tolerance and Acceptance, and I want us to demand more.

Awareness is fine, but me? I& #39;m gonna Celebrate. And I hope you do too <3 8/8
