Alright. Enough is enough it's time to body the Xbox argument already and send it to the grave. The Xbox marketing strategy is the absolute worst in terms of consumer dollar value and consumer friendly policy I've seen yet, and it's time to put my analysis out here for everyone.
First let's talk the argument regarding pricing. You guys always want the argument to be about overall total pricing regarding $'s spent, so okay ill play along. You guys consider the Xbox Series S to be "The best deal in gaming" so let's do some basic math really quick.
An Xbox Series S runs you $300 USD. Spec wise its already a compromised system in terms of performance according to many developers. But let's assume you brought it. It comes with a 500GB SSD, when formatted with the OS, that brings it down to roughly 380GB.
In the year 2020 with Third party titles that tend to have tons of junk files, patches, and files that aren't compressed you aren't gaming with 380GB of storage its just not happening so now you get left with 2 options.
Let's assume you choose to run games natively on hardware, well you are gonna need one of those nice 1TB Memory Expansion Cards. Oh that's right they are proprietary memory. You know what that means? Expensive. A 1TB Card runs you $202 USD.
Now added up, you've spent $502 USD on your already compromised hardware Xbox Series S. Keep in mind that both the PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X both sit at $500 USD. Now, let's say you wanted to take the risk and exclusively stream games. That gets even worse.
Let's assume that you wanted an annual subscription to GamePass, Exclusively for your Xbox Series S. Okay that means you are looking at $15 a month. $15 × 12 = $180 USD. Thats more than double the cost of Subscribing to PlayStation Plus.
Now, let's assume you want to play GamePass 24/7 on any device. For Ultimate, that's $25 a month. So $25 × 12 = $300 USD. You could almost have afforded a PS5 by that point, or if its about portability, a Nintendo Switch. The argument is lost. Xbox is a con.
Now to add on to that really quick. There's been rumors plaguing the gaming community about that "Its so hard to develop for PS5" or "PS5 is having Production issues and won't be able to meet demand". There are significant problems with that argument.
Why is it that we are in late September, and we haven't seen a single game running natively on Xbox Series X | S hardware? They managed to put ip Pre-orders for systems we know absolutely NOTHING about. We've seen Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War running natively on PS5 hardware.
We have seen Resident Evil: Village gameplay captured running natively on PS5. We saw the Demon's Souls gameplay. We saw several minutes of Spiderman: Miles Morales running on PS5 hardware. Why haven't we seen anything regarding Xbox and they expect you to buy a unit?
Developer's praise the PS5 architecture and there's so much talk about how great the SSD is, allowing for developers to render in the most expansive gaming world's yet, with virtually no load times. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is quite literally a game that was built
Around the PS5's SSD. Without the fast read/write speeds of the PS5 SSD you couldn't create such a dynamically shifting world like that without breaking the players immersion. Square Enix have seemed to pull a Final Fantasy 7 moment like with the original PlayStation.
The Nintendo 64 at the time was the more powerful system, but it was hindered because of the cartridge format. It was easier for a developer to make a game for the PlayStation rather than the Nintendo 64, because the CD at the time could hold more data,
It could hold audio files, fully rendered FMV Cutscenes, and was cheaper to manufacture. So Square Enix left Nintendo at the time to make their most expansive entry in the Final Fantasy series yet, Final Fantasy 7. It appears we are in a similar situation today regarding that
Square Enix is only publishing Final Fantasy XVI for the PlayStation 5. That SSD must be significant to their vision with this title. Resident Evil: Village will run better on PS5 because we know from several developers that they have talked about that the PS5 SSD
Has allowed them to create the most immersive and expansive horror experience yet. Now here is one last thing to counter the Xbox argument, If GamePass is "The best deal in gaming" have you considered the quality of the titles on GamePass? If the metacritic user score is so
Important than why is it most of these games sit at a 60 or lower? Quality over Quantity is always important I'd say. Do let's look at the competition with the newly announced PlayStation Plus Collection offering from Sony. $60 for a year of PlayStation Plus gives you access
To the PlayStation Plus Collection. This is a Collection of 18 titles from the PlayStation 4 that received high critical reviews, solid user scores, and defined a generation. All available at launch on your PlayStation 5. Only costs you $60 to just download and play these
Titles, no streaming. They all run natively on hardware, all enhanced with the PS5 boost mode. These titles are playable at 4K 60fps. I'd say that is a pretty solid deal. Includes titles such as The Last of Us: Remastered, Resident Evil 7, God of War, Days Gone, Final Fantasy XV.
The quality and variations of these experiences are insane. It's almost practically that Sony are just giving them away. Next I want to talk about the "PlayStation 5 Production issues" rumor before ending this. Why is it that today it was nearly impossible to get an Xbox Series X
Stores had almost no stock available of the major system. There were plenty of Xbox Series S to go around though. It seemed as though that it was intentional that Microsoft wanted to sell you a streaming box with the Xbox Series S, or there are serious production issues regarding
The Xbox Series X, not the PS5. On top of that the launch was a complete disaster, worse than the PlayStation 5. For Microsoft being the biggest cloud service provider they couldn't even keep their own website up, on top of that they publicly announced when and where you could
Buy an Xbox Series X, So people were able to preset the bots early to acquire all the stock on systems people wanted. So in the end I'd like to ask the question again. Which system is the better deal? I'd say the PlayStation 5 personally. I enjoy my first party exclusives and
Strong third party support. But in the end its up to you. I'm just gonna use my common sense and take the better deal. Xbox is a con, and that's not just me.
