I’m going to tell you a story about Susan. Susan had a career. Susan had a husband who she found in bed with her best friend. Then Susan didn’t need a husband because screw him and she kept her dignity and her career. Then she got the call about the lump they saw on the mammo.1/5
Susan had great insurance. It paid for the mastectomy and even the reconstruction. She only missed 2 weeks of work and used her sick leave. A year went by. The cancer was back. Susan needed chemo and radiation. But she was a fighter. 2/5
She had good days and bad. Used up all her sick days. Then her paid vacation. Then her FMLA leave. Her boss paid her a visit and told her they couldn’t hold her job any longer. 3/5
Susan was too sick to work right now. She used her savings to live and buy COBRA at $2700/mo for 3 mo. She couldn’t find a job with benefits so she worked retail just to have cash flow. She had to sell her house and rent an apartment. 4/5
Her cancer went into remission but 3 years after her diagnosis, her friend found her body after she quit answering texts. The cancer didn’t kill Susan, the American Healthcare System did. We all know Susan and we owe it to her to VOTE November 3. 5/5
