the way mechanics were how cain could be close to eden bc she was so dedicated to it, and then how eden dieing left cain alone and face to face with the way they don't even rlly *like* doing this stuff, but they don't know how, or have the space to try finding their own passion..
eden loved cain, she truly did, but her work as a mechanic and as a technician were so much her passion + her drive that she often got lost in them, tunnel visioning to solve x problem or try y build, and cain got left in the dust a lot.
to cain, even young, they knew how hard it was to drag her out of that place/headspace, and it became easier to just enter *her* spaces instead, watch her work, let her excitedly ramble and teach what she knew. eden thought cain was genuinely interested in mechanics but--
in truth growing up cain just wanted whatever time and attention they could get from her.......and if it was as a makeshift apprentice then they'd wholeheartedly take it.......
