if counting the days you’ve been sober helps you, do it. but if you’ve been trying to quit something and you slip up one time, you don’t have to feel like all your hard work has been flushed down the toilet and you’re a failure. it’s ok to pick yourself back up and move forward.
you’re not back at day 0. all those days you spent feeling happy and in control are an accomplishment and you learned from them and you can do it again. you’re not the same person you were before in the same place, you’ve had experiences and lessons that will help you succeed.
all those days you were sober or not smoking or gambling or whatever it is provided you a benefit. a rest for your heart or lungs, some time for them to repair. a break from an expensive habit that helped get your finances in order. those benefits haven’t disappeared in one day
and if you are going to use a drug again after a while of not doing it, please don’t use the same amount you did previously because your tolerance has gone down so your risk of overdosing is a lot higher. you deserve to live even if you’re struggling with your goals ❤️
