"Teachers work less than 8 hours a day!"

I get to school at 7:30... respond to parent emails and voicemails, mark, prep, photocopy, connect with virtual learners, teach lessons, supervise my students during breaks, assess IEP goals, coordinate SBT/care team meetings... 1/4 #BCED
... buy groceries for my program, attend virtual meetings with departments and district groups, volunteer with the union, and still do work well into the evening. It's not an 8 hour day and it's not just 5 days, not by a long shot. 2/4
"If you hate it so much, quit!"

I told a student I was proud of him today and the smile I got in response was infectious. I am acting as a waitress in my portable distributing individually packaged snacks and cups of tea and coffee that I've put together (I have FoodSafe). 3/4
My students CHOOSE to come to school despite being considered at-risk. They do it because they want to learn and because I provide a predictable and emotionally safe space. It's what I can and should do for them.

Why can't the Ministry of Education do the same for me? 4/4
