Of course, there are time when they can’t refresh -

it for a while, if missions or injuring or anything else gets in the way, and that always leaves Keith feeling antsy, worried that the mark will fade before he can get back to Lance. Some nonsensical part of his psyche convinced that losing the mark is the same as losing his mate

Thankfully, it never happens, by luck or by dedication, is anyone’s guess.

But when they have close calls like that, they take the time to refresh it more frequently, sometimes several times a day. Usually, it’s still during sex. But when Keith is feeling needy and clingy -

over a close call, it’s not always an option

Sometimes it’s Lance minding his own business, reclining in the common area, when suddenly he’s faced with a lap full of pouting boyfriend, tugging his collar down and grunting rather than actually verbalizing his demands

Lance is used to this, able to understand all varieties of Keith’s nonverbal grunting. So he latched on to the spot, teeth settling right into place and biting gently at first, before going harder, until he thinks it’ll be enough to satisfy Keith’s needs. He always follows up -

with sucking a dark hickey around the area, and then with gentle, loving kisses. Part of him loves how much Keith needs to feel him at all times, part of him cries at having to hurt Keith like this.

Keith never seems to mind though. Sometimes he‘ll hop up and carry on with his-

day. Most times though, he’ll curl up in Lance’s lap and doze there, content and comfortable

This aspect of his Galra instincts can be annoying, but by in large, Keith wouldn’t trade the feeling of closeness for anything
