❤️ this tweet and I will say something about you
Agh, I have about an hour of chores suddenly but I will respond to these!
999 - One of the best people I’ve ever met in politics. A musician, a clever and funny person, a hard worker, always on the right side it seems, loyal af
13 likes so far, 3 of which are from pseudonymous accounts. I’ve probably met the one from Greenpoint, and maybe the one from Boerum Hill.
25 — one of the pseudonymice, and it turns out a friend. A clever, funny bloke who I enjoy on the internet but now know that he is also a caring, committed person and easily a top 100 trivia competitor in the whole of NYC. Helped lead a small revolution.
530 - a Twitter friend for a couple years now. Loves the city, has eclectic interests, very knowledgeable, not afraid to challenge received wisdom and orthodoxy
1010 - One of the very brightest hopes of the new generation and someone who to me really symbolizes so much of what a Zoomer-led future is about. Someone who will make a difference in a lot of different ways.
757 — an anonymous account that follows too many people and is one of my favorite parts of this hellsite. Deeply penetrating data mind with better TV taste than almost everyone else
121151 — a real Brooklyn mensch, and someone I wish I knew better. I fall back on amusing and knowledgeable a lot (that’s most of my friends) but this guy has that in spades
11 — One of the best allies in NYC politics of any age. A big part of the reason I will go to my grave believing Bernie Sanders ‘20 was better than Bernie Sanders ‘16
6226—The best divorce lawyer I know, and a better divorce lawyer than you probably know. Top amateur Western expert in Japanese cuisine I’ve ever encountered. A cyclist, a funny guy, a proud Philadelphian and a proud New Yorker, a good poker player. A mensch.
8—The one that got away. Charismatic; adventurous; a life of the party; creative and also practical; a strong person, a tough person, a good person; not a snob; owns a snake and rides a longboard! Not until years later that I realized 30% of the population falls in love with her.
All the Zoomers (who started this Twitter trend to raise suicide awareness at the beginning of the month) are piling in now and it will take a while to sort out. This will end up being a 30 tweet thread at least. Sorry to those who didn’t like and still will keep following anyway
770 — A heavy Tweeter by profession and an ardent advocate for Jews everywhere. Someone eager to always find some common ground, even if the going looks rough.
11617—the coolest mom I know? (I honestly feel like her and my HS best friend are my top 2.) A hilarious person I’m always happy to hang out with, but see far too rarely. We’ll always have that one Italian arthouse film where a goat‘s born and you said “gross!” to all Film Forum.
23—another liberal/left Manhattanite and a very fine political mind. Says smart stuff online but also does the work offline. Appears to go all over the state.
1985—my birth year for one of the people I think is most like me in the whole world. This guy is smart and principled and won’t stop fighting until the people of this city have a better deal OR he dies. It’s that simple.
33–another Manhattan political type; another very smart guy. Committed to making the city better and a pleasant dining companion. Wish I knew him better.
This thread is honestly 75% about Zoomers or dudes in their thirties, but that sorta makes sense, innit
42—A consistent joy to have around; the young activist who reminds me more of teenage me than all the others I’ve encountered
32313—An excellent cyclist and a committed arguer. A talented software something-something. Someone I’m looking to go on a long ride with real soon.
777 — My most recent work spouse, my only same-sex work spouse. A talented wordsmith and a genuinely good and complete person in an industry where that’s certainly not always common
20 — Another talented Zoomer. They’re all clever and committed, but this one’s funny as well. Detail-oriented and asks good questions.
3206 — not a Zoomer but somehow their Queen; rare female railfan; can maybe see the future and seems like she’s there for everyone who needs it; def someone who is more of a mutual friend than a friend but I am def looking to change that
1278 — Yet another Zoomer. Terminally online yet a very effective activist offline as well. I’m using funny a fair bit but I am amused by this guy’s take on things. He’ll do some big things. Second person on this thread I’m worried about going up against in the same council race.
81 — a debonair, handsome guy who knows politics and culture and Pennsylvania, a state where knowledge of the first two can be a little lacking. Very good at his job and the interns couldn’t believe someone so accomplished was only two years older than they.
779 — Not someone I think I know personally, at least not well, but with a deeply impressive audio career. I believe she’s my friend’s wife. If so, she’s got good taste in dudes (and their names) and I’ve heard about what a good mother she is.
11211—Someone who strikes me as a complete person (many of us in politics are fragmentary) who is accomplishing impressive things in several different sub-fields. A Renaissance Woman. Pretty good taste indeed across the board, as evidenced even by the number she picked.
That’s it for tonight but I will pick it up again late tonight or early tomorrow morning.
252 -- The "good trouble" standard bearer so far of this coming generation. That's a powerful mantle to bear. We are all of us sometimes wrong, because we are human.
3. Someone I've known nearly half our lives (I'm a year older), and she's quite successful in our field. We've both been in stable relationships for years now. Nothing ever happened with us. I guess now I admit I always harbored a huge crush.
907. Sleeper pick for my favorite political actor in the entire city! Some of the other number/people in this thread know about her, but almost no one else does yet. She is *very* young & very smart & rather reserved and I suspect ruthless. What's she like outside of politics?
