This country was an idea. It was founded by idealists who thought and hoped those after them would continue a dream. Of hope. Of equality (even as they saw it). Of opportunity. We didn’t heed their warnings of vigilance. Over the years we fell into complacency and greed. 1/5
And now we have fallen prey to those, and there will always be those, who wish to exploit the optimistic for their own gain. Those who care nothing for the rule of law save when it serves their own interests, and then only as far as it does so. 2/5
It’s insane to presume those insidious traitors to a dream will uphold any ideal, honor any path or bargain, respect any rule that doesn’t serve their own purpose, line their own pockets. 3/5
But here we are, the hopers, the dreamers, the trusting, expecting them to “do the right thing” when it’s apparent the only thing stopping them from upending the table and doing whatever they want was a belief they had that they might suffer for their actions. 4/5
And now they know they will not be held accountable. They keep on their charades out of habit only, but nothing will stop them now.

As many do, a dream of hope and progress, that could have continued indefinitely had it been protected and nurtured, has died.
