My dad is one of 200k+ people that died of COVID-19. He was super healthy, didn't have any pre-existing conditions, & didn't even have gray hair. He still DIED after a 3 week battle with COVID-19. He wasn't a nobody. He was my dad, an important and integral person to my sisters, my mother, me and entire extended family. Those 200k+ people that lost their lives were someone, they mattered to someone. Their lives had value & didn't deserve to die from such a horrible virus.
He worked at sweatshops in downtown LA to support us. He went to church every Sunday, which he helped run. He put my sisters & I first. He made sure all of my sisters & I could go to college. He was our biggest supporter and cheerleader.
And now he's gone and I'm just thankful my mom & sisters were able to survived COVID-19 and are now recovering. All I can do is ask you all to register to vote and VOTE for someone that believes in science. Trust me when I say that having someone die off COVID-19 is horrible.
When my dad was hospitalized for COVID-19 he was alone. We all called him and all he wanted to know was how we were doing. Due to how cough he could barely talk. I was the last person he talked to before he was put on a ventilator on day 3 of being in the hospital.
The nurses at the hospital were nice & let us call his phone, answer it & put it on speaker for us to talk to him. We just wanted him to know we were there for him. It didn't matter that he was sedated. We all talk to him & told him we loved him & that things would be ok.
Days after being hospitalized, he developed ARDS (Acute respiratory distress syndrome) then went into MODS (Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome). The day he died my sister (who's a nurse) was on the phone with his assigned nurse. She was told things weren't looking so good.
His heart rate was too low & his blood pressure too high. As my sister was on the phone with his assigned nurse she heard my dad code. She heard how hard the staff tried to save my dad. But in the end they just couldn't bring him back. My sister heard them call time of death.
6:55pm (PST) my dad died. He had just turned 60. Because he was a COVID-19 death he couldn't have a normal funeral. I couldn't travel to be with my family or see him be buried.
He mattered. All those 200k+ people that have died of COVID-19 matter. They did not deserve this. He should have been able to see my other sisters graduate from college. He should have been able to retire and enjoy it. My dad should be alive. But he isn't.
