"Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey are Arsenal's top two central midfield target for this window, they are trying whether or not they get one or both of them, I don't know. They do have back up options if they don't."( @David_Ornstein)
"It [The signings of Aouar/Partey] could come down to, who Arsenal are able to shift out of the squad to free up squad space and also the willingness of their owners KSE to sanction such investment. Evidence over the last year or so suggests that they will" ( @David_Ornstein)
"Some people I speak to think it's more likely that they end up with one of them [Aouar/Partey] and to that extent possibly more likely Thomas Partey because of the position he plays and Arsenal's need to strengthen in that area." ( @David_Ornstein)
"Also Thomas Partey has a release clause that makes it more clear-cut unless Arsenal can negotiate lower or form some sort of swap deals with Atletico Madrid." ( @David_Ornstein)
"Lyon are notoriously hard to deal with. Tough negotiators. Especially their president Aulas so that could complicate things around Aouar who's transfer fee is reportedly higher than the Partey buy-out clause." ( @David_Ornstein)
"On the flip side to all of that Edu, Arsenal's technical director has a very good relationship with his Lyon counterpart Juninho from Brazil. Aouar is also represented by the same agency as Mikel Arteta so it's going to be a fascinating couple of weeks." ( @David_Ornstein)
"Reiss Nelson is available to leave Arsenal in this current transfer window on a loan basis. It's likely that he will go away and get game time." ( @David_Ornstein)
"In terms of Lucas Torreira, talks are taking place with Atletico Madrid about a potential loan deal." ( @David_Ornstein)
Atletico Madrid are pushing closer to sign Lucas Torreira but Torino's technical director is in London. ( @AlfredoPedulla)
Mohamed Elneny hasn't decided his future with Arsenal yet. His agent is currently in Turkey and has offers from Galatasaray and Trabzonspor. ( @ChrisWheatley_ - @ahmedatta0)
On Shkodran Mustafi, there's interest from a couple of clubs but nothing is advanced. These things can move very quickly (especially as he has 1 year left on deal) but he's not desperate to leave Arsenal — he is happy in London.
( @SamJDean)
Matteo Guendouzi has not handed in a transfer request at Arsenal. His future is still uncertain given the club are willing to listen to offers for him. ( @JamesOlley)
Mikel Arteta: “We are going to take the Carabao Cup seriously, that is for sure. With the fixtures we have, the number of games, it is very difficult. Maybe not in the first games but when the competition moves a little more forward, we are going to treat the competition."
Arteta: “But we have to go day by day, let’s see what position we are in for Wednesday to try and put out the strongest possible team to try and win it. In the last few seasons I think this competition for the clubs has raised [importance].
Arteta: “That leaves a lot of frustrated clubs and now everybody wants a title and you can see in the last few years that teams have used strong line-ups and the types of finals we have seen in recent years.”
Arteta on David Luiz being a good role model for the younger players“: I think he is a really good role model for them. For who David is as a person and as a player and everything he has achieved in the game – I think they are lucky to have him around.
Mikel Arteta on William Saliba (1/2): “I think William is doing really well. He is adapting to the country, adapting to our club. We have to bear in mind that he had a really challenging season last year with the amount of injuries that he had."
Mikel Arteta on William Saliba (2/2): “But he is a player that is going to be really important in our future. Things sometimes take some time and we have to respect that.”
Arsenal were among the Premier League clubs who underwent routine COVID19 testing on Monday and despite coming into contact on Saturday with West Ham (who have since returned 3 positives), all Arsenal results came back today as negative ( @TheAthleticUK - @David_Ornstein)
