Friendly reminder with me and new Looney Tunes projects: I have nothing against doing something new with them. I am of the opinion that if you have a good idea, pair them with good animation, and it's funny, absolutely do more Looney Tunes. They shouldn't be stuck in the past.
Proof has shown it can be done and do wonders: Every Greg Ford/Terry Lennon cartoon are slam dunks in laughs and characterizations (directors who can make The Duxocrist, Night of the Living Duck, Invasion of the Bunny Snatchers, and Blooper Bunny have my respect).
Carrotblanca, as nuts as the budget is, has some wonderful animation and an excellent understanding of both the characters and the appeal of the original movie.
Both Little Go Beep and the CGI shorts prove that anyone who REALLY wants to put their mind to those characters can make Road Runner cartoons that match the brilliance of the original Chuck Jones shorts. I'll gladly take them over the Rudy Larriva directed shorts.
Heck, even Chuck Jones made perhaps the best Road Runner cartoon after he got fired from the original studio: Chariots of Fur is easily on par with his best.
I'll save my thoughts on the TV/streaming cartoons another day (when they're good, they're REALLY good. When they're not, it's godawful TV), but if there's nothing else to take from this thread: Don't label me as a modern Looney Tunes hater. I'm not.
