the medical system is a structure of violence in and of itself through the breakage of body and spirit. ~ @HarshaWalia
our view of #SDOH leaves out 1 critical aspect: inequity exists within the hospital too, where medical violence occurs daily @DrsDefundPolice

another shocking thing I learned today: routinely DEPORTS migrant workers (who live in overcrowded & unsanitary conditions & effectively perform indentured labour) when they become ill or injured. these are the people who put on our tables #MedEd #SDOH @DrsDefundPolice
different forms of violence are actually all connected. we can't only think about improving healthcare - improving healthcare is ONE part of dismantling colonial structures for all. the fight is part of a broader struggle. powerful words from @HarshaWalia #StatusForAll #LandBack
"medicine has been part and parcel of the colonial project." @SamirS_H
my #MedEd is rooted in knowledge obtained through exploitation & experimentation on women, Black people, & Indigenous people. my knowledge comes from suffering. medicine does racial violence @DrsDefundPolice

has CHOSEN to strategically underfund every single service on reserves and has delayed its response to calls for action. pushed people off their lands, underfunded reserves, imposed systems of governance, & reserved right to decide who is & is not status. this is apartheid.
one thing I will learn more about is the difference between First Nations, Métis, and Inuit. I frequently use the term Indigenous (including this thread). this is a catch-all term that fails to account for a multitude of unique cultures and groups of people. #Fighting4aHand2Hold
I will continue to educate myself on the historical and current forms of colonial violence perpetuated by the government. I will share what I learn with my friends, family, and fellow medical students, and in future, to my medical practise. #Fighting4aHand2Hold
