Why do they feel the need to insult your intelligence like this? Why not just say "we're doing it because we like neoconfederates in charge of the Supreme Court and we have the votes?" I have an answer!
What they're actually doing here, of course, is "the Constitution formally permits what we're doing and we can do it, so fuck you." But there's a problem with admitting it, because this could become inconvenient in January 2021.

Barnett and his allies will be back to "but muh norms" mode if Dems retake the House and Senate in November, but sorry, no backsies. The Trump/McConnell Rule is "if you have the votes to do it you can do it" and that should be the rule in 2021.
