*opens book from from library that have had on hold for months and have heard is a pretty good romance*

"the sassy latina"

"her accent reared its ethnic head"

*returns book*
both quotes from the first page, i kid you not, i hate it here
ALSO I am only allowed to have 15 holds at a time meaning this title took up space that could have gone to wonderful books for ACTUAL MONTHS, i want to speak to a manager
she lives in a placed called

and again, this is all on THE FIRST PAGE

"The Three Amigos apartment complex"

The Three

Amigos

apartment

complex
THE PLOT IS LITERALLY THAT THE LATINA LEAD IS PINING AFTER A BOY THAT SHE GRACIOUSLY LET GO TO HER "BRAVE, BEAUTIFUL, BROKEN" FEMALE WHITE FRIEND WITH "BIG BLUE EYES" BECAUSE WHITE FRIEND'S "WILLOWY FRAME & SWEET TEMPRAMENT" IS HONESTLY MORE SUITED TO BE WITH BOY THAN SHE IS
DID I MENTION THAT BY THIS POINT IN THE CHAPTER WE STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE LATINA LEAD LOOKS LIKE, ASIDE FROM HER BEING "SHORT" LIKE HER FAMILY, BUT WE HAVE MULTIPLE DREAMY DESCRIPTIONS OF THE WHITE BEST FRIEND
This book came out only 2 years ago, has hundreds of people waiting for it at the library, and has high scoring reviews throughout Goodreads, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble, I never want to hear a single one of y'all complain about publishing being "too PC" or "too inclusive" again
Y'all who have figured the book out, I get the urge to go on a callout crusade but if I'd wanted to tag the author, I... obviously would have done so? You're free to go fight wherever you want but please don't drag it into my mentions, lol
At day's end: it isn't just 1 author. It's a huge network of agents, editors, publishers, & readers all endorsing this sort of rep w/out batting an eye. Want to combat it? Support the crap out of #ownvoices books offering healthy representation & stop simping for ones that don't.
(1 more b/c I'm still mad: even the 1 description we have of Latina Lead, her height, is mentioned in context of White Female Friend & White Boy Crush "looking down on [Lead] with LOVELY BENEVOLENCE"

that is a direct quote

you have no idea how much I wish I made this up)
