I was making a point on fb about how a lot of leftie anarchist ppl who use that stance to assert that israel should not exist because states in general should not exist,
probably wouldn't get away with using that argument to tell native people how they're allowed to self-govern on their ancestral lands
why is it ok in leftist circles to tell one indigenous group how they're allowed to set up their society, but not the other? I asked.
now some guy is trying to tell me I can't use the term indigenous on Jews because they have sovereign control of their ancestral lands

that you can say "irish are indigenous to ireland" but not call them "indigenous peoples"
Which.. yeah i didn't refer to Jews as Indigenous People

I just said indigenous group
he's ever so helpfully giving me this unsolicited and barely applicable advise so i don't "look silly"

gee thanks
so like is the implication here that native groups in n america can't use the term indigenous if they gain sovereign control of their land?
Or are we still going to consider them Indigenous Peoples as a label that people understand but not refer to them as an indigenous group?
there's a whole lot of 🤔 to his stance
and this whole back and forth has been SO condescending oh my god
he's arguing that Italians are indigenous to Italy but couldn't be called an indigenous group

I think you have to consider history of, and current, oppression and colonization here
no one is contesting Italy, or its link to Italian people. it also wasn't just recently established

Meanwhile colonization and oppression and attempts at cultural genocide ARE happening against jews in israel and jewish connection and indigeny to israel
How settled and uncontested would native tribes on turtle island for instance have to be before you'd argue they can't be called an indigenous group?
