Here's my email to Nicole. I sent the same email to all candidates for office across the city, asking for simple bio information as well as to set up a time where we can talk about why they are running for office and their priorities if elected. When Nicole wrote me back questioning why I didn't want to hear about her platform, I clarified that I had hoped to get the simple answers back from her in an email but then talk via phone to find out about her platform.

When she still declined to talk, I clarified again my goal.

"My ultimate goal is to get out the best and most accurate information about each candidate so that the people in your district can decide for themselves who is best to serve them."

Nicole responded that she said it was obvious I was targeting her since I asked about her age and political background. I responded explaining that these are just standard biographical questions reporters ask people running for public office.

I forwarded her the emails I sent to other candidates to show that I sent them the same questions - regardless of the race.
