Okay first let’s see some brief explanation of child abuse

Let’s start with physical abuse. Horikoshi has NEVER portray or hint that Bakugo had any physical injury from his mom.

The hitting in this scene is because bakugo called her “kuso baba” (shitty old hag) and the nuance was more of a comedy, not him getting abused

Some fans are pushing it, saying that his mom’s hitting him may be the reason for his 1.”violent” and 2.”bullying” tendency.

1. Violent
In BAKUGO’S CASE, his violent tendency is a TRAIT given by Horikoshi to make his character interesting. It’s equal to his hair color, eye color etc. Not because he was abused.

His violent trait doesn’t define his personality.

2. Bullying
For the fans that read the manga until final chapter, he explained why he bullied. I made a whole thread about it too. Spoiler: not because he was physically abused as a child

First we need to understand the concept of Japan’s MOST important manner:
人に迷惑をかけない
Hito ni meiwaku wo kakenai.

So the concept is: you are the most unworthy, if you make other people move a finger because of you, even if they’re throwing rocks at you, you are “causing trouble” for them.

Now we’re gonna learn another Japanese word:
[身内] “miuchi”
It’ll translate to “relatives” but the kanji consist of 身(body), 内(within). So it could also mean one’s body

Your son and husband is also your “miuchi”

So when your son (which is also your “body”) made other people move a finger for him, he’s already causing trouble.

And since you need to humble down the most in the room, you will take your son to humble down with you because he’s your mirchi

In the raw panel mitsuki said something “because you’re weak, you got caught and caused trouble (meiwaku kakeru) for other people!”

When she said Katsuki is “weak”, she’s actually humbling herself because her son is her miuchi.

So this is BASIC MANNER for them, NOT mental abuse

Also note that she had to humble down that far because they’re in front of All Might that supposedly got his career ended and is badly injured because of katsuki.

Horikoshi repeatedly emphasized that Bakugo’s superiority and inferiority complex came from him excelled in EVERYTHING and getting praised too much.

I don’t know how people could make it like it’s because his mother abused him

It’s also written in Bakugo’s Japanese profile that he never failed at anything UNTIL he came to UA.

People don’t change until they meet failure. That’s why he kept that attitude for 14 years and started to change after he experienced hardship in UA

I’m not saying that they’re perfect. No family is perfect but they’re far from dysfunctional nor abusive.

Parenting in different countries will be done in different ways whether you like it or not. Horikoshi portrays Bakugo as a kid that is raised in a proper JAPANESE family.
