TGCF BOOK 4 SPOILERS AHEAD ‼️

while reading tgcf or after finishing it, you may come across people who basically picture mu qing as evil especially with what occurs in book 4. i’m one of the people who, while reading, came across a mu qing hate tweet regarding book 4 and i -
seriously thought the worst for what they said about him BUT as i read, i actually.. got sorta mad, because i couldn’t believe that so many people misunderstood him that much.

let’s start from the beginning: as anyone who has read knows, book 4 includes all the events that -
happened during xie lian’s descension, and so that of mu qing and feng xin’s too. now, tons of people usually throw shut at him for leaving?? like that?? when honestly, it wasn’t only that at all. the initial situation of book 4 actually, and as some may not know about, had been-
going on for around 4/5 years, so it’s not like he left the morning after and honestly.. he really was pushed to his limit for him to even consider doing so. think about it for a moment longer please: mu qing was the one who washed clothes, who did house chores, who looked after-
xie lian’s parents, the one who kept count of money, the one who ran errands AND ON TOP OF THAT, he went also to work his ass off FOR THE WHOLE DAY like xie lian and feng xin did. he did all of that EVERY DAY for FOUR TO FIVE YEARS and nobody really worried for him. mu qing -
is the one who knows more than anyone in the group what’s like to live in poverty, he knew how much money were important. he knew how much you have to struggle to get through. he always offered suggestions, and he always got cut off.
he suggested to be bodyguards? no, that -
wasn’t possible because feng xin had to stay with xie lian and xie lian couldn’t work without a mask and it would be suspicious, so a job that could pay decently was excluded since the beginning.
he suggested to go busking? “how can xl do that! his body is worth whatever much -
golds!” as if they were in the circumstances to choose? as if they had the luxury to whine about it when they NEEDED the money? as if mu qing doesn’t have a thin face too and if it was possible, he wouldn’t certainly go to make a clown of himself too? showing that they didn’t -
even realize how dire their situation was.

now on the last job they took before mu qing went away. mu qing literally expresses how hard everything was on him also with the mention of this part, where he says that if xie lian dirtied his clothes it would be him to wash them -
and that he even preferred doing the rest of xie lian’s job instead of having more things to do after. but he got ignored. there’s this one part that broke my heart, when they talked about the statue. feng xin wanted only to defend xie lian, i understand that and i love how -
devoted he is to his best friend but. but. he sorta said some things that from a different point of view (that of mu qing), they could have hurt more.

“you’re not the one whose face is being stepped on, so of course you can speak so lightly of it”

did any of you have the -
same energy when it was mu qing that was getting bullied and that went on /for years/? mu qing has been stepped on for all of his life because of his status. he was bullied because of it. he was actually being stepped on AT THAT MOMENT TOO. isn’t it just a very indirect way to -
say “you’re not a noble, so it doesn’t hurt the same way”? isn’t it just a way to tell mu qing that it’s fine the way he has been all his life because he wasn’t rich?

many people wonder why mu qing even wondered or didn’t see why they didn’t see him as a friend, i still have -
more to say about this but can you really blame him? he was still being treated as a servant. he’s always been treated as a servant and not as a friend. how could he even think that he was their friend and that they didn’t keep him there just for convenience’s sake? BUT EVEN -
THEN. mu qing cared, and he never stopped caring. the reason why he went away was for them too, he probably thought that if they went on like that they would have just let themselves to d*e like that and ended up doing nothing to prevent that. he took everything on his shoulders-
still but in a different way, because he cared. and what did he get when he went away? everyone worrying just about who had to take care of things now. xl got worried about his mother’s hands after she washed clothes for the first time in her life. did he ever ask in those years-
how mq was doing? if he needed help? if he was holding up good with every single thing he had to do? did he worry about his body condition? ah no, sorry, i forgot that he’s supposed to be the servant.
now, the part that makes everyone hate him apparently, the one with the 33 officials. people treat him as if he wanted to do what he was FORCED because of the situation he was in to do. let me explain better. -
first of all, mu qing wasn’t even there when it all started and came only after. most of the time people treat him as if HE bullied xie lian when he did no such things, i’ve seen around a lot “wasn’t he getting bullied? why is he also doing that now? 🤪” WHEN HE NEVER TOOK -
PART IN ANY OF IT. and he even was shocked to see what had happened and who was there, literally he had just come and didn’t do ANYTHING. (see below)
moving on, i don’t really know what people read, but mu qing literally just stood to the side and didn’t do anything. he was struggling because he didn’t know what to do in that situation; he was probably in an inner turmoil as he saw everything that was happening in front -
of him, as he was incited by the others officials. do you think he was in the right spot? do you think that he was selfish, as if he didn’t consider that losing his position meant not being able to help himself and his mother, not being able to help THEM and xl’s parents too? -
it’s really not as if mu qing wanted to hurt xie lian. please read these and tell me where tf do you see someone who did what he did with pleasure and someone who did that willingly.
the xian le trio fight.

now that was hard to read, very hard for multiple reasons. let’s start from this: mu qing and feng xin were talking normally for the first time ever probably?? everything was doing fine, feng xin even thanked mu qing and told him to be careful (since no -
one in heavens could help mortals like that and directly) but then feng xin, after he heard what xie lian said, lashed out. mu qing desperately tried to explain, because he wanted feng xin to understand his point of view too. mu qing wanted to just.. talk to him, and he got -
silenced as always. or better to say, he wasn’t listened to at all.
mu qing really wanted feng xin to understand, but he didn’t even manage to talk and it broke my heart when mu qing said “when his highness was in a tight spot, wasn’t he forced to commit robbery too? why when it comes to me, you can’t accept it?” because here, mu qing literally -
shows that he cares about him and isn’t it just a way to say “why can’t you see me too?”? literally, i always go on about the fact that fengqing should have talked, that that would have solved things earlier but.. mu qing always tried to and never was taken seriously, was he? -
people always blame him for being a jerk, for acting the way he does when that was only a facade he put on to prevent from getting hurt further. mu qing got a punch from xie lian too in that scene. mu qing, before leaving, literally said “i’m really going” as if he wanted to be -
stopped instead. because that was the moment he just tried to accept that i’d they didn’t stop him at all, then it meant that they really didn’t care about him. so how can you blame him for trying to protect himself? when he really had no one at all when he thought that the -
people around him cared even just a bit about him? when he did his utmost for those he cared about, and still got treated like that in the end?
now xie lian, when mu qing said “i’m sorry” in one of the previous screenshots, said that that was the first time mu qing ever said sorry and you know what i say? that is WRONG. because that isn’t the first time but the SECOND, do you know when was the first time? exactly, -
some chapters before. oh yeah because mu qing is certainly listened to, because he really was paid any mind at all.
what i wanted to say with this whole thread is, you can dislike mu qing because of personal preference and that’s fine!!!! but please, stop picturing him like some sort of villain. mu qing is really a good person, many people think that he’s selfish but THAT’S NOT TRUE AT ALL. -
if you think more about it, mu qing actually thinks about others first while also thinking of himself, the reason why he comes off as that is because he always.. thinks too much about all the scenarios. he’s someone who’s really logical, and tries to think before acting. but -
please don’t picture him as someone who went away because he didn’t care, because trust me if the case was that he would have stayed. if he wanted to leave, HE WOULD HAVE NEVER SUGGESTED ALL OF THAT. mu qing, even in book 5, didn’t agree on becoming an ally of bwx even though -
he knew that people were still going to suspect him anyway. because he’s just like that. because he cares, and in book 5 mu qing risked his life to save the life of one of the people more important to him and he almost sacrificed himself for the other. he’s really just like that.
