Hi folks.

I’m here at today’s presser in Grinnell regarding the homicide of Michael Williams. I’ll be live tweeting updates.

More to come. https://twitter.com/andreamsahouri/status/1308440983231660032
Still waiting on the presser to start. DCI said the following people will be speaking today:

Adam De Camp, DCI Special Agent In Charge

Grinnell Police Chief Dennis Reilly

Betty Andrews, President of Iowa-Nebraska NAACP State Conference of Branches
Adam De Camp of DCI reports criminal charges filed against four individuals currently in police custody.
The investigation is ongoing they are asking for help in the investigation of WIlliams’ homicide.
Now Grinnell Police Chief Dennis Reilly:

Calls for the community to help Michael Williams kids who are now left without a father.

“Our mission from the very beginning and that will continue is to bring justice for Mike and Justice for his family.”
Reemphasizes that Williams and the 4 people arrested (I don’t have the spellings yet) knew each other.
Says the violence isn’t representative of Grinnell’s community.
Now Betty Andrews, President of Iowa-Nebraska NAACP State Conference of Branches:
“We continue to keep the family in our prayers and assure no matter how this gentleman died... it is unacceptable and we join you all in seeking justice.”
Says it is understandable that a body found burning in a small town in Iowa understandably raised red flags.

“GIven that the current climate where racial justice is on the front burner for so many ... We understand the fear this kind of incident evokes.”
She said based on the prior relationship, accounts from witnesses, available evidence and the answers they received from authorities, they believe there is no indication the Williams was targeted because of his race.

The NAACP will continue to consider evidence.
Camp said Williams was held for days at 1203 Spring Street.

Said forensic science identified Williams from his remains. Said wrapping around his face helped connect investigators to the accused.
From packet provided by Grinnell PD:

Roy Lee Garner and Julia Ann Cox of Grinnell were charged with abuse of corpse, accessory after the fact and 2 counts obstructing prosecution.
