Why are Agriculture bills being opposed?
A brief thread,

A total of 3 bills have been passed recently and I'll explain all the 3 bills in brief. First two bills will be explained in short and the 3rd one in a bit detail.

1) First bill is the Essential commodities bill. This bill legalises the hoarding of the food items by the farmers as well as the dealers EXCEPT in two cases 1) war and 2) Emergency situation of any kind (eg. Corona Pandemic). This bill is problematic as it'll give rise to.....
Hoarding of essential items to increase the price and ultimately food inflation. Secondly there is no use of providing the farmers with this privilege as they do not have enough space for hoarding hence they'll be compelled to sell their produce ultimately.
2) The second bill is Empowerment and Protection bill. so what this bill allows big companies to carryout "Contract Farming". So now what is contract farming? I'll explain with an example. So suppose a potato chips company requires a huge amount of potatoes as raw material.......
So what the company does is they'll reach out to farmers. They'll make an agreement with complete farming villages to grow for them potato on a PREDETERMINED price say 20 rs/kg (just for eg.). so now once all the farmers have made this contract everyone will have to sell their ..
Produce to the company. They cannot sell it outside for eg to The "Mandi" etc. This contract is between the farmer and the company in presence of "Mandi Adhikari". what is mandi and mandi adhikari we'll discuss in detail in further tweets. This bill kinda assures farmers income.
3) The third bill is Farmers' produce, trade and commerce bill. In a nutshell this bill says two things, first that farmers can sell the produce in different states for which the provisions are made online and second that farmers have a choice to sell to the govt at MSP or in....
open market wherever the rate is higher. I'll explain this with an elaborate example. suppose Raju is a farmer. Raju was approached by a potato chips company to sell his produce of potatoes to them at 20 rs/kg fixed rate. He thinks that the rate in the Mandi is going to be more.
than 20 rs/kg and hence he does not do the contract. A mandi is a place where farmers sell their produce at 2.5% lesser than the current market rate. suppose the market rate is 25rs/kg. Then Raju will sell potatoes to Mandi at 24 rs approx. Mandis were setup in 1955.but the......
Realiity that the produce is bought at much lesser price than 2.5% less rate. So continuing the example the mandi adhikari says to Raju that he'll purchase his produce at 22 rs/ kg. He declines and goes to Govt. centres to sell the produce which buy at an MSP. so MSP is Minimum..
Support price which is already declared before the plantation process. suppose it is 30 rs/kg and sells it where he received more profit.

Why are farmers protesting then ?
The bills do not include that MSP will be continued but the govt says so. also farmers are worried that the MSP will not be increased so that they are compelled to sell to private companies. Nitin Gadkari said before that the MSP is a burden on Indian economy. Farmers think.....
That the govt is trying to privatise the farming sector and cut it's ties with the farmers with the 3 rd bill.

I have explained the three bills and the issues of farmers in very brief. for more info watch the attached video.
