The problem with writing for lesbians is that I ultimately do not write for lesbians, but for lesbians like -me-; this niche-within-the-niche indicts me as writing for lesbians to whom I am attracted: those femmes who enjoy both mirrors -and- mirroring. Nooon je ne regrette rien.
Give me the fag femmes. Who like opera. Who studied something outside the parameters of queer theory yet view it all through a gay gaze. A dyke who carries their strap in a red Louboutin shoe bag. The gay women who have used Grindr to get laid because Lex lacks beauty and libido.
Nothing de-incentivizes writing for me more than writing for a broad lesbian audience. Too many fret about their relationships to respectability, the problematic, sexiness, and activism that talks less than it moves. There is no friction for me there! They can do nothing for me.
