I have seen, heard and read lots about working from home so I just thought I would offer my own personal experience

Without a daily commute, I have more time to exercise, from morning runs to lunchtime or evening walks, which means I feel much better about myself physically and mentally https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/mar/04/moving-the-body-boosting-the-mind-running-your-way-to-better-mental-health
I'm much happier as I have time to see my friends and spend quality time with my wife & family
This means as well as exercise and being outside, my anxiety levels are greatly reduced
I have a much better work-life balance and more time for mindfulness activities like reading

The resulting lower stress levels mean I'm improving my health by getting more (better quality) sleep
Sleep is something which we all know is so important for preventing tons of acute and chronic health complications https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/sep/24/why-lack-of-sleep-health-worst-enemy-matthew-walker-why-we-sleep

All of this means that when I am working, I'm far more productive because I start my day feeling more positive and refreshed
A clear-head and post-exercise endorphins mean I can be more creative https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2020/09/17/working-home-just-efficient-office-employers-say/

I'm more efficient at work because I'm able to concentrate without distractions
There is tons of evidence supporting why the right working environment is important for introverts https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2020/may/02/for-introverts-lockdown-is-a-chance-to-play-to-our-strengths

As well as gaining back two hours in my day to rest and prepare healthier meals, not having to commute on a packed-bus in rush hour traffic means I'm also doing less damage to the environment
With the money saved from not commuting, my wife and I have been able to afford to buy a house instead of paying extortionate London rent for a one-bedroom flat
We're also able to support the local economy by shopping locally with independent shops and cafes

There is a perception that working from home means being lazy, taking naps, spending all-day doing chores, watching TV and just general all-round slacking
Sadly Iâm sure that does happen in some cases!

Change can be scary, I understand that makes people uncomfortable
But to make sweeping generalisations and dismiss working from home as a viable long-term option for some feels like a huge missed opportunity for us as a country https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20190807-why-finland-leads-the-world-in-flexible-work

This is obviously a first-world problem and I recognise I'm in a fortunate position to be able to work from home
I totally understand not all office workers have the space, the home environment or family circumstances to do so effectively

I also get working from home does not suit those who thrive on the buzz of a busy open-plan office
There are clearly economic consequences for these changing working habits, like redundancies at places like Pret, which is obviously problematic

But it is only fair to balance that with the positive impact on the environment, local economies, social issues and public health from improved physical and mental health and wellbeing https://www.ft.com/content/d8eb62ef-a1cb-4597-867b-15a79dbdcd5d
Whatever your own personal situation or opinion, what is clear is this lockdown experience has given people a taste of âanother wayâ
Ever-improving technological solutions means things are not going to return to ânormalâ once (if) this pandemic ever ends https://yougov.co.uk/topics/economy/articles-reports/2020/09/22/most-workers-want-work-home-after-covid-19

Whatever your views, I respect your opinion. We are all dealing with this crisis in different ways.
