Don’t forget to register before Kentucky’s Voter Registration Deadline on Monday October 5, 2020 at 4:00 pm EDT. If you don’t you will not be able to vote on Election Day, November 3rd.
An absentee ballot is a ballot submitted by mail in before an election by a voter who is unable to be present at the polls. If you need to request an absentee ballot the deadline for that is Friday October 9 and the ballot must be postmarked by November 3rd.
Before Election Day learn where your poling place is and the hours it will be open. To find your poling place XXXXXXXX.
You should also research each candidate and learn about their policies and what they intend to do if the are elected so you can find out who is best for you. It can help if you find out who you plan on voting for before coming to your poling place.
On Election Day you will need a valid federal or state ID such as a Passport. Some states also require a voter registration card so bring yours just in case.
Remember to give yourself plenty of time to vote. You could be out of the door in two minutes or two hours. Make sure you make arrangements with your work and plan a ride if your are unable to drive.
There are many different voting system that may be at your poling place. The three main types are Paper Ballot, Mechanical Voting Machines, and Electronic Voting Systems.
With Paper Ballots you mark your choice with a pencil. You place your marked ballot in a locked box or put it through a scanner (someone will help you with this if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself) before you leave the polling room.
With Mechanical Voting Machines you step inside the “box” and the curtain closes behind you for privacy. Depress the small lever next to the name of who you would like to vote for. When you have cast your vote, you will slide a large lever on the right and the box will open.
With Electronic Voting Systems an instructional tutorial is provided before you vote. You simply look at the screen, make your selection (touch screen) and when you have cast your vote, you touch the “Cast my Vote” button that is located at the bottom of the screen.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about the voting process. Please remember to stay safe and get out there to #vote on November 3rd #VoteReady
