Hi today is national voter registration day and maybe you, like me, have been on a journey when it comes to voting. In 2008 I wrote in "Jesus" for president and this year I definitely will NOT be doing that. Why? Because I have become more serious about taking the Bible literally
The rush I get when I read the gospels and see Jesus both live out AND articulate the values of the kingdom of God and who should be prioritized . . . it is the poor, the sick, the sad, the captive, the oppressed; it is the foreigner, the orphan, the widow.
One of the reasons I am still a Christian is because the rush of joy I feel at the thought of every single person in my neighborhood having what they need in order to flourish: healthcare, safety, housing, vocations, a livable wage, dignity. I know this joy doesn't come from me.
Our two-party system in the US is a total shitshow. I get that. But opting out is just another vote for the status quo (as @BrandiNico so accurately says).

So I'm gonna vote for the party closest to my deepest Jesus-inspired dreams of flourishing.
And if you really think both parties are just two sides of the same coin without seeing the real and dire consequences for marginalized communities in the past 4 years . . . then you might be a very isolated and privileged person. I say this as someone who has been that!
Of course I am afraid of the very real threats of authoritarianism and fascism from the republican party at the moment. But I am letting my dreams of joy and flourishing for my neighbors inform me and my vote.
psssst if you are an undecided/third party voter (or know on) I am giving away two copies of the Myth of The American Dream over on instagram to help (hopefully) spark some questions https://www.instagram.com/p/CFcZnLAhgHb/
