THREAD đŸ§”

If you, like me, thought that the character assassinations and norm destroying hearings of Kavanaugh, Thomas and Bork were extreme outliers this thread is for you

The Dems have used the same tactics on nearly every SCOTUS pick since Bork

I’ll detail it here
In 1987 Ronald Reagan Nominated Judge Robert Bork to be Associate Justice on the Supreme Court

The democrats, led by none other than Joe Biden, proceeded to vilely attack his character implying he was racist for wanting to fix the poor legal basis of some civil rights decisions
Bork supported the civil rights decisions, all he wanted was a stronger legal basis for them so as to avoid the incorrect legal basis leading to unconstitutional laws

They attacked him for his role in the Saturday Night Massacre. I won’t go into detail, but I’ll link his answer.
The constant attacks and vilification was a mere circus put in by the democrats as they had already pledged to reject him in resistance to Reagan

Democrats held the senate and rejected Bork

The character assassination was so atrocious the word ‘Bork’ was added to the dictionary
In this video they go into detailed questions about the Saturday Night Massacre

You decide for yourself is Bork was attempting to “help Nixon”
After Bork, Reagan reluctantly compromised and chose Anthony Kennedy who has been a disgrace to constitutional conservatism since his confirmation

In the end the Dems got what they wanted through character assassination and putting on a vilification circus, destroying precedent
The nomination of Clarence Thomas took place in 1991

This was Bork Version 2.0 but the tactics were Kavanaugh Version 1.0

Character assassination for his views and when that didn’t work, a baseless accusation of rape that was spread before facts were presented in a hearing
Just like with Kavanaugh the Dems waited till the end of the hearing to release the accusation

Just like with Kavanaugh they spread the accusation through their media counterparts

Just like with Kavanaugh Thomas had a fiery response to the allegations
Thomas was confirmed by a narrow 52-48 margin, and I don’t have to tell you the split was partisan

His life was never the same and conspiracies still float around about him to this day
Samuel Alito

Nominated by George Bush in 2005 he underwent intense attacks from the senate democrats, calling him a racist bigot

The attacks were so intense the insinuations so ugly his wife broke down crying and left the hearing room
His confirmation went through 58-42 nearly completely split on party lines save 4 democrats and 1 republican

Here is the report on his wife crying during the hearing
Slightly less known due to his nomination not being to the Supreme Court, but to the DC US Court of Appeals, is Miguel Estrada

Bush nominated him in 2001 and Democrats feared he would be nominated to the Supreme Court when a position became available
Unable to block his nomination they used the filibuster to prevent a final confirmation

He had a “well qualified” stamp of approval from the ABA and that didn’t matter at all to senate Dems
You wanna know what Dems feared according to leaked memos to Minority Whip Duck Durbin?

“He is Latino” and may be nominated to the Supreme Court

Oh but don’t worry, it wasn’t meant to racist. They were just politically worried “he would be an attractive candidate”
For more than 2 years Estrada sat in limbo waiting to be confirmed. Two. Years.

Miguel Estrada’s wife miscarried during the long fight and would later overdose on alcohol and sleeping pills in 2004

Estrada later wrote a letter of recommendation for Elena Kagan’s nomination
Neil Gorsuch was nominated in 2017 and underwent intense scrutiny from the Democrats who attempted to force him to denounce Republicans actions in the Merrick Garland (may he RIP) nomination in 2016

He was confirmed on a partisan split 54-45 vote
And finally Bret Kavanaugh

The horrible character assassination that went on here was so recent I won’t take the time to go back over it

Clarence Thomas 2.0 now with the added elements of an expanded national media and social media

His life will never be the same
Here listed are 6 Republican judicial nominees. 5 to the Supreme Court, 1 to the DC US Court of Appeals

All of them underwent intense personal attacks, professional attacks, horrible allegations of racism, sexism, and rape, and all out character assassinations
The democrats have done this for every president since Reagan

Do not make deals with them

Do not think they’re your friends

Do not listen to their lies

They’re evil disgusting vile people who only have one goal: winning
