Before the power inevitably goes out in Nova Scotia today, I'd like to remind everyone that NS Power should be seized and brought back into public ownership. The crooks who run it have gotten filthy rich while letting the grid deteriorate and people suffer.

NS Power was sold off to private investors in 1992 by the Tory govt at the time, who sold the power utility for $192m, despite it being worth $300 million.

In 2019, NS Power shareholders pocketed $138m in profit, while residents pay some of the highest bills in the country.

NS Power has long fought against efforts to switch to renewable energy sources. In 2018, 63% of power in Nova Scotia comes from coal & petcoke, an increase from 59% in 2015.
And that coal comes soaked in blood from mines in Colombia where labour organizers are often murdered.
