How to solve the coronavirus situation, a thread

It’s clear that this situation doesn’t stop until a vaccine is released, until then we can only go into lockdown, or is there another way?

We know that herd immunity is controversial, but what if it can be achieved whilst protecting the vulnerable?

This idea is social segregation. The theory is the divide the population into three groups - these groups get decided by the likelihood that somebody will die form COVID-19

The first group will be the green group. This consists of the majority of the population who will almost certainly survive an infection, on the safe side let’s say the chance of death for this group is 0-0.02%.

The green group still follows social distancing but is much more relaxed. They can go to pubs and other social places and their work isn’t restricted

The second group is the amber group. This consists of people who are unlikely to die from the virus, however are at a slightly greater risk than the green group. Let’s say their Chance of dying is between 0.02-0.4%|

This group has stricter rules on them. They have to social distance more and their social activities are more restricted and have to stay in smaller groups

The third group is the red group. These are the most vulnerable in our society and their chance of death is anything above 0.5%

This group must stay at home where possible. They cannot go to social areas and contact must remain minimal for essential journeys. They are not allowed to go into work.

You might wonder ‘what if a household consists of multiple groups? If a household is mixed with green and amber then their rules outside the house aren’t affected.

However if there is a member in the house that’s part of the red group, the others family members are not allowed out unless they are a key worker or going on an essential journey.

Shops are split up to serve specific groups. Most towns should have enough shops to designate all groups to their own areas. Supermarket should also have specific shopping times for specific groups

If followed correctly this idea can protect the vulnerable and secure herd immunity. Before the groups are implemented everyone must fill in a health assessment so their group can be determined.
